Google Suspends Street View Service in Bangalore

Google on Tuesday suspended its Street View service in IT hub Bangalore following an order from the police.

Last month, the search engine giant Google had launched the Street View service in India for collecting images of streets through cars and three wheelers possessing and putting high resolution cameras on top of the vehicles.
The purpose was to make available the images of the streets in Street View on Google Maps.

However, the Bangalore authorities have objected to the project due to the security concerns. Google said that they have received a letter from the Bangalore Commissioner of Police regarding Street View. The company is reviewing the matter following the police order.

Google had earlier assured that the cars will capture the images of public places not the faces of people and blurring out the number plates of vehicles.

Earlier, Google had faced problem in several European countries for its Street View service that had allegedly collected email addresses, passwords and other personal information from Wi-Fi networks.

Google had launched the mapping service in 2007 as a part of the feature of Google Maps. The service is available in more than 27 countries. Read More
